August Newsletter

We’ve had a very cold winter in Sydney this year.  Time for lots of comfort foods like soups and casseroles.  There’s nothing more enjoyable than curling up on the sofa with a good book and some hot chocolate on a cold winter’s day.

This month I talk about some winter’s warmers:

  • the wonders of lemons and lemon essential oil;
  • hypertension and how Bowen Therapy can help;
  • Kajita soy candles;
  • plus some interesting workshops that are scheduled for the rest of the year.

Keep warm and enjoy the crisp mornings.  It will be summer before you know it and we’ll be longing for the cooler weather again!!

Live in the present moment

Lemon Oil

“Lemon clarifies everything through upliftment and focus. Its fragrance enables our meditations to be deeper, and our prayers to take flight. The spiritual cleansing of lemon enables the entire psyche to react to the positive in mortal, as well as divine, love.  Lemon represents the fruitfulness of the earth, and life which is bitter-sweet.”

– Valerie Ann Worwood, “The Fragrant Heavens”

Lemon essential oil (citrum limonum) is extracted from the lemon peel.  It is a refreshing, stimulating and uplifting to the mind and spirit.  Lemon oil is purifying and cleansing to the air and boosts the body’s immune system.

Combine Lemon with Basil and Rosemary oils, and you have the perfect study blend.  This improves memory and recall.

Lemons are indispensible in the winter months.  A hot lemon toddy is a great remedy for helping relieve sore throats and coughs associated with colds and flu.  When making a hot lemon drink, remember to add some lemon peel as this contains the essential oils of the fruit and all the nutrients to assist in boosting your immune system.  Alternatively, you can add a few drops of the essential oil to the hot water. I also like to add honey to soothe the throat and a shot of brandy (adults only) to relieve the chills and fevers that often come with a cold.

Add lemon juice or 2 drops of essential oil for a refreshing drink that eases nausea and stimulates the digestion and liver function. It also has the abiility to counteract acidity in the body, so it helps improve arthritic conditions,  Lemon oil can be used as a gargle and mouthwash for sore throats, ulcers and gum infections.

If you don’t already have one, maybe it’s time to grow a lemon tree in your garden..  Small varieties can be grown in pots on a balcony as well.
